Entry tags:comics stuff, lords of death and life, my so-called life

So close and yet so very far.
Twelve dollars worth of ink? Half an hour to 45 minutes assembly time? Two dollars worth of tape??? It's becoming increasingly clear that my ideal method for printing Lords of Death and Life is just not on. This thing just isn't going to happen, especially with less than three days left before I head out to Portland.

I will have a couple of copies with me you can flip through if you're coming to the convention but that's it. Sorry. That, and plenty of copies of A Mad Tea-Party. When I get back home after I'll have to really pound the pavement in search of a cheaper printing method. The lovely accordion fold might need to be sacrificed. Heck, I'll print the thing with Ka-Blam if it comes to that.

It's such a shame too. It looks so nice in print! I mean I'm not trying to sound smug. Most of these pages I have only just printed out on paper for the first time. Ohhh the colours! They came out better than I'd hoped! I so wanted to take this thing with me to Stumptown.

I don't know how I can afford now to do a print run of LODAL though. I blew my budget and then some making the dozen copies I have sitting in pieces on my kitchen table. Crap.

Very sorry to hear :( You definitely set yourself up for quite a challenge!

I really really really hope I have a sample of Ka-Blam's stuff to show you.

Probably a day late on this and all, but you do know that most office supply shops can Xerograph four color pages fairly truly and do center-staple binding?

Barring that, you can staple-bind minis using any full-sized office stapler with a 6-7 inch gap.

Office supply places charge way too much for colour copying. That's why I bought a laser printer in the first place (this way I'm only paying for the ink I actually use). Unfortunately my printer still isn't cheap enough. I've got the giant stapler, I've got a good paper cutter, I just need cheaper prints.

I'm working on it though. I'll give up the folding pages if I have to, but this thing will get printed one way or another.

dunna be discouraged!

i'm sorry the accordion didn't work out.

i hope you find a cost-efficient alternative. perhaps you can always sell the special ones (later) at a "special" inflated price ~ the book is so lovely. i don't see how it won't sell.

Maybe if you shrink it a little more? If you print big poster-sized sheets that have several rows worth of comic, and then do the cutting and folding yourself, it might be affordable...?

I've already shrunk the pages more than I'd like, and cut the bleed in half. I can currently fit two pages on a legal-sized sheet or three on 11x17. Only my printer doesn't do 11x17. What I need to do is find out if there are print shops that will either do larger paper, cheaper copies, or better yet both. I even found out last weekend about a printer who can print 11x17 for cheap, but there's not time to do anything with him in a hurry.

Oh, right...you were going to do LoDaL like a traditional Mayan picture-book. Hmm...

Sadly, it sounds like your idea is the least expensive and work-intensive method.
