Any teacher should be able to tell you that letter-grade report cards are actually a poor way to measure students. The same is true of fake report cards for webcomics. A letter grade can only tell you how the subject is doing at a particular moment, not how much work it was to get there or what the future might hold. If there were an award for “most improved webcomic with the highest likelihood of continued improvement,” Kez’s The War of Winds would likely win. ( Click to read more )
Overall grade: on average B (79%) (but looking only at the current chapter, at least a B+!). |

| Webcomic Report Cards: Minus |

I'm well overdue for one of these. Let's see if I can't catch up during the summer and write a bunch more.
Webcomic Report Cards: Minus By Ryan Armand Link: http://www.kiwisbybeat.com July 26, 2007
Minus is on a very short list of webcomics that are so good I can’t believe they’re not in print. Much like Kazu Kibuishi’s Copper (which is also on that list by the way), Minus reads like the old full-page comics from the golden age of the Sunday funnies. It is sumptuous to look at and intriguing to read. ( Click to read more ) Overall grade: A- (94%) |

Webcomic Report Cards: Family Man By Dylan Meconis Link: http://dylanmeconis.com/familyman April 28, 2007
Dylan Meconis is a long-time veteran of the webcomic medium so perhaps it should be no surprise that her latest comic, Family Man, comes out looking good no matter how you measure it. It is incredibly well researched, original, well written, and most of all beautiful. Even the website is sleek and efficient. ( Click to read more ) Overall grade: A- (93%) |

| Webcomic Report Cards: Quarter Four |

Webcomic Report Cards: Quarter Four By Saadat Bari Link: www.quarter-four.com March 30, 2007
There are few things I value more in an online comic than originality. With over ten thousand comics on the internet representing more genres and sub-genres than any sane person could count, a comic without an original hook or two will not get very far. The “college roomies with pop culture references” genre is by far the most crowded. Which is why it is all the more amazing that Quarter Four can hold its own in this field. | Webcomic Report Cards: Between Two Worlds |
[Mar. 14th, 2007|09:17 pm] |
I signed up to do some webcomic reviews for Panelled.com. As a rather cheap gimmick I intend to call them “Webcomic Report Cards.” Get it? Because I’m a teacher? Huh? Oh. *Ahem*
Webcomic Report Cards: Between Two Worlds By JJ Naas and Elanor Cooper Link: www.between-two-world.net Review by Jonathon Dalton March 14, 2007
There is a reason I’ve chosen this comic as my first to review. Between Two Worlds is, at the moment, arguably the best comic I have ever read on the internet. It is thrilling, deeply engaging, and is written far better than a lot of print comics out there. It updates regularly and often (the original Finnish version is nearly complete so El and JJ can easily avoid the offline barriers webcomickers sometimes face in maintaining updates). The premise is fairly original and the characters well presented. What more could one ask for in a webcomic? ( Click to read more ) Overall grade: A (97%) |
